MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES
What I’ve learned about this pandemic is how important mental health is. How important it is to put yourself first, and to figure out your own needs.
I am here to be your advocate when you can’t be your own.
I challenge you all to learn more about your mental health and how you can become the best version of yourself. Personally, I take care of my mental health through going to therapy, taking anxiety medications, and journaling which keeps me accountable for checking in with my needs. Personally, my mental health also goes hand in hand with my body image. When my mental health is bad, so is my body image. Here are some resources that I use to learn more about mental health and how it plays into society—
My first favorite resource is podcasts. There are so many you can find on Spotify/ Apple music and they are truly such a great way to gain so much knowledge about yourself and others:
Food Psych + What The Actual Fork are two podcasts helping people make peace with food and their relationship with food & body image. Both of these podcasts challenge diet culture, which I think is really important in today’s society.
Real Pod is a podcast by Victoria Garrick, who is a former D1 athlete, who has conversations about success, failure, life, and challenges.
Therapy Thoughts was actually recommended to me by my therapist — it is a podcast by Tiffany Roe, who is a mental health counselor & psychology teacher. She shares quick therapy sessions that give you tangible things you can do to help you love yourself and your body. Truly it helps me feel like I am not alone, and it helps me feel validated in my thoughts.
Although I do not personally use Better Help, I follow a lot of mental health influencers that suggest using this platform for therapy. This isn’t free, but this is a really affordable option for those who want to start going to therapy! https://www.betterhelp.com/
Some things I have learned throughout all of these resources
– You have the right to unfollow anyone on social media that doesn’t add anything to your life
– When someone has anxiety, we use worrying as a way we cope to CONTROL our lives — this made me feel a lot less alone, and that there was a valid reason for the constant worrying in my life
– Mindfulness is paying attention to our feelings at the moment without judgment. ex: in a moment you say “ok I am angry”, whether it is good or bad, right nor wrong. Then from there, you observe the feeling(where do you feel it?), describe the feeling(how big bis the feeling and what does it feel like?), and then validate the feeling (it is okay to be feeling this way).
– Self-care is not just getting your nails done or simply pampering yourself, but it is a paradigm shift & a gentle tuning into your needs. You are worth being taken care of.
best wishes, be well and thrive, cam
